The Writing course develops students’ ability to express ideas clearly, creatively, and effectively. Students learn the purpose and importance of writing, explore different text types, and understand why to write, what to write, and how to write.

The course covers parts of speech, word choice, sentence structure, compound and complex sentences, as well as key elements of writing such as plot and conflict. Students also learn writing techniques including rhetorical devices, rhyme, metaphor, symbolism, and irony.

Through creative and long-form story writing, students apply these skills to produce work that is well-organized, logical, substantial, concise, accurate, vivid, and engaging. Their writing is also shared, appreciated, and discussed in class.
